USA: detail from ‘America Today’, by Thomas Hart Benton

“ The most substantial things in the little western towns are the grain elevators and water tanks.-TH Benton #emptyMet http://ift.tt/1Cws3fa;

David Worth’s insight:
This image, posted on Twitter by @rocketboy76, set me off on a quest. It’s a detail from ‘America Today’, a ten-panel mural, painted in 1930-1931 by Thomas Hart Benton, and recently donated to the Metropolitan Museum of Art. Similar style to that of Le Roux Smith Le Roux, whose murals are in the boardroom of Africa’s greatest art deco building, the former offices of Old Mutual in Cape Town.
